Plantar fasciitis
What is it?
Heel and/or arch painUsually with a morning pain that settles on movement and weight bearingTreatment is based on reducing load to let the initial inflammation settle, and then building resilience and strength into the tissues with a rehabilitation programme
Type of device indicated?
- Slimflex Berry (link to product) – for who don’t need a high arch but allows for reduction in tension in the plantar fascia
- TECTHOTIX (link to product) – great for PF with a bias towards rearfoot pronation moments
- Slimflex Simple ¾ medium density (link to product) – when PF is related to traction across the PF.
- Heel cup also helps when the fat pad is reduced or bruising to the calc is evident EVA ¾ insole (link to product) - great for cupping the heel and cushioning to the heel when the fat pad is reduced or bruising to the calc is evident
Exercises/Rehab
Depending on stage, but in the early stages, calf stretching and towel stretches can help to manage symptoms along with insoles/orthoses and taping
Massage, ice and rolling of a tennis ball or dowel can help tooLatter stages require strengthening and rehabilitation

Referral for scanning and imaging.
Shockwave or injection may be required in recalcitrant cases
